چکیده

In this paper, an active vibration control of a translating tensioned steel strip in the zinc galvanizing line is investigated. The dynamics of the moving strip is modeled as an Euler-Bernoulli beam with nonlinear tension. The control objective is to suppress the transverse vibrations of the strip via boundary control. A right boundary control law based upon the Lyapunov’s second method is derived. It is revealed that a time-varying boundary force and a suitable passive damping at the right boundary can successfully suppress the transverse vibrations. The exponential stability of the closed loop system is proved. The effectiveness of the control laws proposed is demonstrated via simulations. Copyright © 2002 IFAC

Asymptotic Approximations of the Solution for a Traveling String under Boundary Damping

Transversal vibrations of an axially moving string under boundary damping are investigated. Mathematically, it represents a homogenous linear partial differential equation subject to nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. The string is moving with a relatively (low) constant speed, which is considered to be positive.  The string is kept fixed at the first end, while the other end is tied with the ...

Boundary Control of Axially Moving Continua: Application to a Zinc Galvanizing Line

In this paper, an active vibration control of a tensioned, elastic, axially moving string is investigated. The dynamics of the translating string are described with a non-linear partial differential equation coupled with an ordinary differential equation. A right boundary control to suppress the transverse vibrations of the translating continuum is proposed. The control law is derived via the L...

Vibration Control of an Axially Moving String by Boundary Control*

The stabilization of the transverse vibration of an axially moving string is implemented using time-varying control of either the boundary transverse motion or the external boundary forces. The total mechanical energy of the translating string is a Lyapunov functional and boundary control laws are designed to dissipate the total vibration energy of the string at the left and/or right boundary. ...

Vibration Control of an Axially Moving Strip by a Non-linear Boundary Control

In this paper, an active vibration control of the translating steel strip in the zinc galvanizing line is investigated. The unwanted vibrations of the strip deteriorate the uniformity of the deposited mass on the surfaces of the steel strip and the consumption of zinc. The translating steel strip is modelled as a moving belt equation by using Hamilton’s principle for the systems with changing m...

Vibration and Stability of Axially Moving Plates by Standard and Spectral Finite Element Methods

Based on classical plate theory, standard and spectral finite element methods are extended for vibration and dynamic stability of axially moving thin plates subjected to in-plane forces. The formulation of the standard method earned through Hamilton’s principle is independent of element type. But for solving numerical examples, an isoparametric quadrilateral element is developed using Lagrange ...
